Amazon Prime Video is once again facing backlash, this time for its rental policy. Many users have already raised concerns about the platform’s clunky interface and frequent advertisements, which often disrupt the viewing experience.
Now, the confusion continues with its rental system. Several viewers still find it hard to understand why some films appear as “rent only” even for Prime members.
Sidharth Malhotra and Jahnvi Kapoor’s romantic comedy Param Sundari is set for digital release on October 24. But before that, Prime Video will offer it exclusively for rent from October 10.
This 14-day gap between the rental and free streaming release could encourage piracy, as illegal sites might upload HD versions during that period.
Another concern is the film’s weak box office performance. Param Sundari didn’t perform well in theatres and is considered a one-time watch by many viewers. Because of this, most Prime members may not want to pay extra just to rent it.
Given these factors, Prime Video’s rental strategy might not work well for films like Param Sundari. It now depends on how users respond once rentals open on October 10.
