Shahid Kapoor’s Deva is out now in theatres and as expected, the film has not done so well at the box office. While there are certain flaws in the film, one thing that led to its failure was that it was a remake of the 2013 Malayalam film, Mumbai Police.
However, no one can deny the fact that Shahid gave his best as the lead character, ACP Dev Ambre. There are certain portions where you feel like you are watching Kabir Singh on screen.

Unfortunately, the film’s screenplay, specifically the slow pacing did not work in its favor. On the other hand, the makers made the worst mistake by changing the main twist of the film in the end, which was the major highlight of the original film.
Another problem is that Deva hardly created any buzz among the audience. There was not a single chartbuster song and the announcements were coming out abruptly.

A similar thing happened with Vikram Vedha in 2022, which featured Hrithik Roshan in the lead. The performances were outstanding but the audiences had already watched the original film of R. Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi on different online platforms, due to which the film eventually flopped.
It is the best time for the filmmakers to understand that remakes are no longer a safe option in Bollywood. Except for Drishyam, every remake’s fate is now locked in that it will eventually turn out to be a failure at the box office.

OTT platforms are now easily accessible to anyone. Other websites offer films and TV shows in all languages that can be downloaded easily. In this situation, the production companies must focus on bringing original stories by collaborating with some good writers.
Even an actor like Shahid Kapoor should avoid doing remakes. There is no specific answer to whether Shahid has lost his stardom but it is confirmed for now that remakes have finally lost their value in Bollywood. The time has come for a change.
