Controversial Film Gets Mixed Reviews: Agenda Failed?

The Taj Story controversy review

Paresh Rawal’s The Taj Story has faced controversy since its announcement, with many viewers believing it carries a strong ideological tone. The film finally released today, and online reactions began immediately.

Some viewers praised Paresh Rawal and called the film powerful. They felt the narrative was bold and appreciated the performance and presentation.

However, a large section criticised the film, saying it could harm communal peace. They argued that The Taj Story promotes a disproven claim and frames history through a political lens. According to them, the film tries to portray India’s past as purely Hindu until disrupted by Muslim rule.

Many users remarked that claims once seen only on “WhatsApp University” are now entering mainstream cinema. They questioned how the CBFC cleared the film without concern for potential communal tensions.

Viewers also compared the current film landscape to earlier years. They pointed out that films like PK, Rang De Basanti, Swades, and Bajrangi Bhaijaan once dominated, while recent years have seen titles such as The Taj Story, The Bengal Files, The Kerala Story, The Kashmir Files, Swatantra Veer Savarkar, and The Sabarmati Report.

A major concern expressed online is that audiences may start believing the Taj Mahal was once a temple, despite historical evidence and Mughal records stating it was built as Mumtaz Mahal’s mausoleum.

Critics fear that if such films become mainstream, they could influence public opinion, create division, and pose a threat to social harmony and secular values. Supporters, however, say artistic freedom should be respected.
