There is an interesting debate happening in industry circles about directors making films solely to please a star hero’s fans.
This discussion ‘Fan Films vs. Audience Films’ gained momentum after the release of Pawan Kalyan’s Bro.
It has become a routine for small and mid-level directors to indulge in hero worship and repeatedly make statements like, “We will make the fans super happy” or “Show the hero like in his prime time,” etc.
However, what these directors are grossly confusing themselves with is that no film made solely for the fans has succeeded at the box office.
A movie must first work on its merits in terms of the story and other technical aspects. Fans’ pleasing moments, along with these, add additional value for both fans and general audiences.
But these directors get carried away by the opportunity to direct a star hero and immediately fall into the trap of saying, “Our film will thrill hero fans.” This is exactly where the failure lies.
