
The expectations were pretty high on Devara right from day one as it happened to be the immediate next Project of NTR after RRR. In accordance with this, the film got a pretty decent opening at the box office.
However, a few days after the release, there was one general consensus and it was that Koratala Siva did not make full use of NTR.

The complaint was that Koratala had more than enough time to deliver a thumping cinematic experience, but all he could create was a mediocre product at best.
The main complaints were that the framing and cinematography, particularly in presentation of NTR was very weak. Adding to that the production values were also largely criticised.

Koratala could just about stay afloat with pass marks, and that is also perhaps due to the box office pull of NTR.
However, this narrative is slowly changing again now. If we compare to other recent star Hero films, it could perhaps be argued that Devara is a better product.

The Director could get brilliant tunes out of Anirudh and the musical maestro delivered a thumping background score on his own. Though the film failed on the visual front, the musical department blasted through the roof.
In comparison, the director did not deliver a disaster product, which could not gather even have any face value. He did indeed come up with a face saving film that had enough bright sides.
At least, this film didn’t get washed away like it counterparts which is a good thing. This is something that is to be credited for Koratala.
Chuttamalle reaching Ed Sheeran is another feather in the cap and it keeps the film afloat now, especially so considering that Koratala is determined to come up with a sequel.
At the end of it, Siva could at least create a presentable product that could potentially have a look at the sequel idea if at all NTR has this intention.
