Vishwak Sen burst onto the Telugu film scene as a rebel, carving out a unique identity with films like Falaknuma Das and Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi.
At a time when Tollywood was stuck in a commercial rut, he seemed like a breath of fresh air—an actor and filmmaker determined to craft his own cult rather than conform to industry norms.

However, his recent film choices suggest that he too has fallen into the trap of mainstream commercial cinema which disappointed his cult fans. While Gaami stood out as an exception, most of his recent films have leaned towards formulaic storytelling.
Despite his strong social media presence and aggressive promotions, he has struggled to deliver a solid, undisputed hit at the box office.

Many of Vishwak’s films generate okay talk upon release, yet they fail to sustain after the weekend.
Movies like Ashoka Vanamlo Arjuna Kalyanam and Ori Devuda received decent reviews but couldn’t sustain their run in theaters. Das Ka Dhamki had good openings but fizzled out quickly.

Gaami performed relatively well, but Gangs of Godavari turned out to be a disappointment. However, his last movie, Mechanic Rocky, was a washout. So, slowly, that minimum weekend run is also becoming uncertain.
Now, all eyes are on Laila, which is set to release in four days. Vishwak has put in significant effort, experimenting with a lady getup for the first time. It remains to be seen whether audiences will embrace this experiment.
Adding to the film’s buzz, Megastar Chiranjeevi attended the pre-release event, but his speech mostly sparked discussions about his political past rather than the film itself. Similarly, actor Prudhvi Raj’s comments led to debates about YSRCP rather than Laila.
Whether this unintended publicity will translate into strong box office numbers across all areas is something only time will tell. Vishwak Sen definitely deserves better success than he has gotten in recent times.
