It looks like Prabhas is slowly shifting his focus toward a new generation of filmmakers after the poor response to some of his recent projects, including Raja Saab directed by Maruthi. According to industry observers, the actor is now showing interest in working with “new-age” directors who prefer realistic and content-driven storytelling rather than depending entirely on traditional commercial formulas. These are directors who are appreciated by Gen Z audiences.
The term “new-age directors” usually refers to filmmakers who focus on natural narratives and stories rooted in real-life experiences. In recent years, several directors from Malayalam cinema have gained attention for this style. Their films, despite low budgets, have often earned strong appreciation and good box office results, proving that strong content can attract audiences without relying heavily on routine commercial elements.
Reports suggest that Prabhas has already begun meeting some of these filmmakers. A recent photo of him with director DinJith Ayyathan went viral on social media. DinJith gained recognition for films like Kishkindha Kaandam and Eko, which received a lot of praise and performed well commercially. Audiences from other languages also received them well on OTT. Insiders say the two discussed a story idea, although nothing has been finalized yet.
Another filmmaker who reportedly met Prabhas is Rajkumar Periasamy. He earlier directed Amaran and is currently working on a film featuring Dhanush, Sai Pallavi, and Mammootty. Though relatively new, both directors have gained attention for their strong storytelling.
At the same time, Prabhas continues to work with established filmmakers such as Hanu Raghavapudi, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Nag Ashwin, and Prashanth Neel.
Currently, he is juggling several large projects, including Fauzi, Spirit, and Kalki 2. There are also plans to begin Salaar: Part 2 after these commitments.
Sources say Prabhas wants to line up more projects to avoid long gaps between releases. Fauzi is expected to arrive this year, while Spirit may release around next March.
If he eventually collaborates with directors like DinJith or Rajkumar Periasamy, it could result in a fresh and unexpected combination that might generate some memorable films in Prabhas’ career. However, there is also a risk that Prabhas’ hardcore fans might not appreciate these films which are subtle, raw, and realistic with no over-the-top heroism.
