Sai Pallavi Doing Kalki 2 Practically Not Possible?

Sai Pallavi Kalki 2 casting rumours

For a long time, Kalki 2 had almost disappeared from public conversation. Many fans assumed the sequel would take years or might not happen at all. Suddenly, fresh buzz around the film has brought it back into focus after The Raja Saab debacle. Reports came out that Prabhas wants to prioritize Kalki 2 over Salaar 2, as he felt that project had more box office potential. Reports also suggested he allocated 10 days to shoot for the film in February.

However, one major issue remains unresolved: the female lead. In the first part, Deepika Padukone played a key role, but she left the sequel last year, which shocked the industry and triggered widespread speculation about her replacement.

Over the last two days, social media has been flooded with claims that Sai Pallavi has been finalized for the role of Sumathi. This character is crucial to the story, and in the sequel, both Sumathi and Kamal Haasan’s character are expected to get much more screen time. Balancing these two powerful roles and still giving massive screen time to both Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan’s characters is said to be one of director Nag Ashwin’s biggest challenges in Kalki 2.

From a performance point of view, many believe Sai Pallavi is a natural and emotionally strong actor who could handle such a demanding role well. However, replacing a star like Deepika is not easy. Since Kalki is a pan India film, the casting needs acceptance across all regions, especially in the Hindi market. Any significant change will naturally face scrutiny from audiences and the Mumbai media. There is also a risk of audiences getting disconnected from the character due to the change of actor.

There is also a practical hurdle. Sai Pallavi is currently committed to a big Bollywood Ramayana project, and reports suggest she does not plan to sign new films until that shoot is completed. So, Sai Pallavi doing Kalki 2 isn’t practically possible as of now and the viral claims may not be true after all.

After nearly two years of scripting and planning, Ashwini Dutt and his team are reportedly ready to invest heavily to meet the high expectations set by the first part. If the heroine issue is resolved soon, the sequel will gain even more momentum before shooting officially begins.
