Alia Bhatt is no longer part of the casting buzz around Nag Ashwin’s next woman-led project. The director, known for Kalki 2898 AD, had been planning this film before moving fully into Kalki 2. Her absence has surprised many fans.
Alia was first attached to the project, which seemed like a promising combination of a mainstream star and Ashwin’s ambitious vision. But reports suggest she stepped away due to scheduling issues, choosing instead to focus on Maddock Films’ horror franchise Chamunda.
Chamunda is expected to roll out from March 2026. Alia’s decision leaves a major gap in Ashwin’s project, which industry insiders now believe may be filled by Sai Pallavi. Her name has already started trending in connection to the role.
Sai Pallavi is currently working on Ramayana, where she plays Sita. With the second installment likely wrapping by mid-2026, she could be free to collaborate with Ashwin soon after. The timing aligns well with the director’s production plans.
Though not a conventional Bollywood leading lady, Sai Pallavi brings natural depth and strong screen presence. Many feel this could work better for Ashwin’s experimental style, giving the project freshness instead of relying solely on big star appeal.
Alia’s choice reflects how Bollywood stars often prioritise mainstream franchises over riskier director-driven cinema. While Chamunda offers her a commercial bet, Ashwin may benefit by bringing in Sai Pallavi, who could carry the film without the weight of star expectations.
