The Sankranthi 2027 race is getting increasingly crowded, with several major Telugu films eyeing the festival season. Chiranjeevi’s Mega 158, directed by Bobby Kolli, is reportedly targeting Sankranthi, with Kaaka said to be the likely title. The official announcement is expected on August 22.
Venkatesh and Kalyan Ram’s multistarrer with Anil Ravipudi, reportedly titled January 12 Vidudala, is another contender. Sai Durgha Tej’s Sambarala Yeti Gattu has already locked January 12, 2027, while Sharwanand’s George Krish with Sreenu Vaitla is also being planned for the season.
Ravi Teja and Sree Vishnu’s comedy entertainer is reportedly targeting Sankranthi too, with quirky titles like Veeradhi Veerulu Anta and Mahila Mithra Mandali Taluka under discussion. Nagarjuna’s King 100, his 100th film, is another possible entrant, with Lottery King among the titles being considered.
But here comes an interesting twist.
One of the films that has already announced Sankranthi 2027 is now reportedly unlikely to actually arrive on that date.
According to our sources, the release date may have been announced mainly to close the OTT deal and strengthen the film’s business negotiations. The makers reportedly knew internally that making the Sankranthi deadline would be extremely difficult, but the date was still announced for business purposes.
Interestingly, the hero is also said to be aware of the situation but is reportedly helpless and in no position to do much about it. Which is that film, your guess is as good as ours.
If this turns out to be true, the Sankranthi lineup is already seeing the classic Telugu cinema release-date game: announce first, negotiate business next and worry about actually making it to theatres later.
