The Supreme Court has cancelled the bail of Kannada film star Darshan and his partner Pavithra Gowda, sending them back to prison. The court warned that releasing them could pose risks and encourage harmful actions.
This ruling is linked to the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case that dominated national headlines in 2024. Prosecutors allege that Darshan called Renukaswamy under the pretext of meeting him, then plotted his killing over a personal dispute that stunned the film industry.
On June 11, 2024, Darshan and Pavithra were arrested and spent nearly seven months in jail before the Karnataka High Court granted them bail in December. Afterward, Darshan resumed public life, meeting fans, posing for selfies, and appearing at viral events.
Investigators claim the motive came from Renukaswamy, a devoted fan, allegedly sending obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda. Rather than taking legal action, Darshan is accused of choosing a violent response that ended the man’s life in a shocking turn of events.
The case has blurred the boundary between cinema and reality, casting Darshan’s life into a grim narrative far more brutal than any character he has portrayed on screen. Public interest remains high as the trial moves forward.
