War 2 is set to release in theatres in two days, with advance booking opening around the same time. The initial response has not been impressive, but the pace could improve from the second day if reviews and audience feedback are highly positive. With 5,000 screens booked across India, all eyes are on the opening day performance as trade experts wait to see if this action-thriller can match or surpass the records of recent blockbusters.
For War 2 to set a new benchmark, it needs an opening day collection between Rs. 55-60 crores. However, the current booking trends suggest it may find it difficult to cross the Day 1 figures of Tiger Zinda Hai and Sanju, which stood at around Rs. 34 crores. At present, it does not appear that the film will break the record of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. A collection in the range of Rs. 35-40 crores on its first day would not be ideal for a franchise of this scale, and relying solely on the weekend may not guarantee strong earnings.
To emerge as a superhit or blockbuster, War 2 will need to gross between Rs. 500-600 crores overall, which would require a weekend total in the range of Rs. 200-250 crores. The current situation serves as a reminder for the YRF Spy Universe and other big filmmakers about the importance of strong promotional campaigns. A compelling trailer and chartbuster songs often encourage audiences to book tickets in advance.
Before release, War 2 appears to have missed out on key marketing opportunities, with an underwhelming trailer and no standout music tracks. This time, the YRF Spy Universe may have to rely heavily on word-of-mouth rather than the immediate pull of grand visuals, as seen in its previous films. The coming days will reveal whether War 2 can live up to expectations or result in significant losses for Yash Raj Films and its partners.
