Yash shook Indian cinema with the KGF franchise. Now, after more than four years away from the big screen, he is returning with Toxic. Makers claim it is one of the biggest pan-India films releasing this year, but the ground-level hype doesn’t say so. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film carries massive box office expectations.
The film has a huge cast featuring Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth. Recently, Yash made a big reveal that Kiara and Nayanthara will play powerful characters with very dark shades, calling them “badass women” who bring something refreshing to the story.
Everything about Toxic looks big on paper. Big star. Big budget. Big cast. Big expectations. But there is one problem.
The response to the film’s promotional material so far has not matched the scale of the project.
For Yash’s comeback after KGF, the hype feels unusually low. Songs, teaser content, and early promotional material have not created much impact. There is some curiosity but the explosive excitement usually seen around massive pan-India films still feels missing.
That becomes a bigger concern because Yash is no longer treated like a regular commercial hero. After KGF, fans expect scale. They expect elevation moments. They expect larger-than-life impact. They expect an event film.
The film has already been postponed many times, but no proper reason has been given. Industry circles speculate that the film’s release planning has also faced complications due to OTT platforms not offering the price Yash is demanding.
Another interesting aspect now revolves around the female characters. Creatively, having Kiara Advani and Nayanthara play layered characters with darker shades sounds refreshing. But commercially, it creates an unusual challenge for a Yash comeback film.
Post-KGF, audiences largely expect Yash to completely dominate proceedings. Rocky Bhai became bigger than cinema itself. If Toxic eventually becomes too ensemble-driven and the female characters emerge as the biggest talking point after release, many will declare Yash’s return didn’t fully capitalize on his larger-than-life stardom.
Right now, Toxic feels less like a guaranteed success and more like Yash’s biggest test after KGF.
