The city of Hyderabad has been witnessing heavy and relentless rainfall over the past few days. Images and videos showing flooded roads, even in the city’s poshest areas, have gone viral across social media platforms. The water-logging has brought normal life to a halt, and to make matters worse, even flyovers have turned into lakes with vehicles seen floating away in the downpour. This situation has caused fear and inconvenience for the people of Hyderabad.
Amid this chaos, the Hyderabad Traffic Police are facing a tough time managing the growing number of vehicles on the roads. Traffic is always a concern in the city, especially in IT zones like Gachibowli and Hitech City, where the daily movement of vehicles is extremely high. On regular days, this leads to congestion and long traffic jams, but with heavy rains, the conditions have become far worse.
The delays are not only frustrating but also raise serious safety concerns, especially with employees rushing to get home. To tackle the situation, the Hyderabad Traffic Police have stepped in with a proactive solution. This move is expected to bring relief in the IT corridors where the traffic volume is generally the highest during peak hours.
After assessing the weather conditions, Cyberabad Traffic Joint Commissioner Dr Gajarao Bhupal issued an advisory. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), urging IT companies to allow employees to work from home on days with intense rainfall. He also suggested that those who are working from offices should begin logging out in phases starting at 4.30 PM to ease traffic pressure.
In addition, the traffic police are coordinating with IT companies and providing regular weather updates and traffic guidelines. Their aim is to ensure both safety and smoother commuting during this challenging period.
