In a rather shameful incident, the MIM MLAs of Telangana left the Assembly without waiting for the national song Vande Mataram to be played.
They staged a walkout immediately after the Governor’s speech concluded. In fact, all six stanzas of Vande Mataram were played at the Telangana Assembly on Monday.
The MIM had said that the song cannot be forced on citizens and added that politization of public symbols was inappropriate. However, the BJP alleged them of disrespecting the national song.
India is a pluralistic country, so is Telangana. For centuries, people of all faiths have lived safely in the country. People enjoy freedom to speak their opinions. But walking out on the national song has hurt the sentiments of not just Telangana citizens, but the citizens of India.
Many opine that such blatant public acts develop chasm between citizens of an otherwise secular and democratic country, and so do the citizens of Telangana.
