The Centre has taken a key decision on NH 65, the national highway connecting Hyderabad and Vijayawada. It plans to convert it into a high-security, six-lane smart highway in the coming days.
The move aims to reduce accidents and improve safety along the stretch. Officials said the highway will be expanded from four lanes to six and will soon be formally announced by the Central government.
The upgraded highway will be developed as a smart digital corridor with surveillance, solar lighting, and rainwater harvesting systems. Safe roadside kerbs and landscaped medians will also be part of the project.
The four-lane stretch from Adole Maisamma temple near Malkapur to Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada will be upgraded into six lanes. The plan also includes business outlets along the route for better convenience and accessibility.
A total of 231 CCTVs will be installed on both sides of the highway to monitor activity around the clock. Using advanced AI technology, these cameras will provide 369-degree surveillance to ensure security and reduce accidents.
The project, estimated to cost ₹10,391.53 crore, will transform NH 65 into a modern, safer, and smarter route linking Hyderabad and Vijayawada, say officials.
