On May 8, 2025, the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting dropped a bombshell that has shaken the digital world to its core.

In an unprecedented move, the Ministry ordered an immediate and complete shutdown of all Pakistani content on OTT platforms, media streaming services, and intermediaries operating in India.

Citing the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, the Ministry declared that any content threatening India’s sovereignty, public order, or international relations would be scrutinized.

This explosive directive comes in the wake of the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which killed several Indians and a Nepali citizen.

With strong suspicions pointing to Pakistan-based entities behind the attack, the government made it crystal clear: hosting or streaming Pakistani content could endanger national security.

The advisory slaps a ban on all types of digital content — from films and web series to songs and podcasts, whether free or paid.
