Thalapathy Vijay is said to have rejected 50% seats and 2.5 year CM term offer from a Delhi party. Since there is a mention of a Delhi party, there is speculation about it being the BJP.
According to Vijay’s aide, Vijay declined the offer as he is clear about contesting in all 234 seats. Apparently Vijay is no longer eyeing the CM’s seat. Instead he is said to have shifted his focus to gaining the trust of Tamil people.
What Vijay wants is to become a secular, social justice party and imbibe security among the Christian and Muslim voters. Of course, Vijay still talks of becoming the CM of Tamil Nadu, but looks like he is taking a chance in 2026 elections.
Tamil political analysts say the ‘Delhi’ party could be either the BJP or the Congress. That remains a suspense. But as April 23, the election date approaches, it looks like Vijay is going to go solo.
In the past, a rotational model was tried in Uttar Pradesh. But it failed to work. In 1997, the BSP and the BJP worked on the rotational CM model with Mayawati serving for 6 months and Kalyan Singh of the BJP taking over from her. It was the era of coalition politics, but the rotational agreement resulted in failed coalitions and multiple short-term CMs.
Hence, Tamil analysts feel BJP could have made the offer. But many in Tamil Nadu wonder about BJP’s own performance in the upcoming elections. They feel Vijay going solo would be best for his political future.
