Never Before: Lord Ganesh on Double-Decker Mandap

Double-decker Ganpati mandap in Mumbai

For the first time in Mumbai, Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations feature Lord Vinayaka installed on an open double-decker bus decorated like a traditional mandap. The unique initiative by Mumbai Cha Sheth has transformed the bus into a moving temple.

The bus will travel across the city for eleven days, covering more than fifty locations. At each stop, devotees can take part in darshan, rituals, and celebrations, making Ganeshotsav accessible for those who avoid crowded pandals.

This mobile mandap not only showcases creativity but also carries deep social meaning. It connects diverse communities by taking the festival directly to people and creating a shared devotional experience across neighbourhoods.

The decorated double-decker, with its festive colours and devotional motifs, attracts large gatherings wherever it goes. Daily aarti, music, and blessings ensure the sanctity and grandeur of Ganpati celebrations remain intact.

The journey is also tracked live online, extending the celebrations beyond physical boundaries. More than a novelty, the double-decker Ganpati mandap is a symbol of unity and inclusivity, proving that traditions can evolve while keeping devotion alive.
