The opening T20 of the five-match series between India and Australia at Canberra’s Manuka Oval ended in a complete washout. Constant rain throughout the evening stopped play and forced officials to call off the match.
Rain disrupts promising Indian start
Australia’s captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to field first. India made a confident start, reaching 97 for 1 in 9.4 overs before rain interrupted play. Captain Suryakumar Yadav looked composed on 39 not out, while Shubman Gill supported him with a steady 37*.
Match reduced before final washout
Rain halted play twice. The game was first reduced to 18 overs per side, but heavy showers returned soon after, ending all hopes of resumption. The contest was eventually abandoned without a result, leaving both teams with no points.cri
Look ahead to Melbourne
For both sides, this match now serves as little more than a warm-up before the next game in Melbourne on October 31. India last played at Manuka Oval in 2020, when they secured an 11-run win. Though Suryakumar and Gill showed good form, the weather had the final say this time.
