When Meta launched Threads in competition to X, it became the fastest social media platform to have 100 million active users. But within a month the number of monthly active users on Threads dropped to 10 million. The app seems almost dead with most of its initial users inactive on the platform. In order to revive Threads, Meta is planning to launch a web version of the application next week.
Initially Threads was launched to cater to smartphone users but the downward spiral chart of its users is forcing the company to adapt to new policies. At the moment, an internal trial is underway for the web version of the application and it is being tested by the company employees for about two weeks. It is speculated that the company would probably release the web version for general users next week.
The decision can be seen as a desperate move to save the virtually dead platform. Launched in competition with X, formerly Twitter, Threads is nowhere near the user base of X. X reported having 363 million monthly active users and this number increased after Elon Musk’s takeover of the platform. The new revenue sharing model of X is also very lucrative and attracting more participation on the platform.
Users have been able to see a few #Threads posts on the web but the access has been limited since Threads has been built with mobile phone users in mind.
