Little Issues Big Mess! Indian Techie Exposes Tech Firm

Indian Techie

“Seeking help or simply not being self-aware?”, an Indian-origin techie shared his frustration about being constantly bugged for trivial and minute hiccups by Junior engineers. He posted on X how Juniors think the mentors might be constantly available for them over texts to fix small bugs.

In his words, this approach shows a lack of self-awareness and low growth potential. Not everything can be spoon-fed. And trying to be available for help during working hours also hinders the workflow. According to him this not only slows down the workflow for him but also signifies how the person seeking help is actually not thinking for himself and taking the job seriously.

On the other hand, if someone approaches with curiosity, seeking to know and explore something, that also encourages the seniors to help as it is beneficial for both of them. But that often is not the case. Most come to get done with simple debugging or problems that can be solved very easily.

He said this kind of repetitive task reduces their productivity. The juniors and new employees need to understand that if they don’t explore and learn to deal with simple problems by themselves that will only ensure their unpromising career graph.

One Mircosoft employee suggested creating a list of FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) so that repetitive problems can be dealt with in one go. This is not a permanent solution, hence the work culture and training system for new employees need to incorporate new values that encourage self-developing behaviors.
