Micron’s Influence On Semiconductor Growth In India

India Semiconductor Stumble

In the first half of 2025, Micron Technology’s packaging facility in Sanand, Gujarat, is scheduled to release the nation’s first semiconductor chips.

The unit might become a major participant in the global semiconductor industry if the chips, which are intended for use in data centres, cellphones, laptops, and Internet of Things devices, are exported.

Nearer to the end of production, the precise distribution of chips will be decided upon taking into account variables like client demands, pricing, and demand dynamics.

Micron is looking into new business prospects in developing industries like government contracts in India and electric two-wheelers. Citing past partnerships with Tata Group enterprises, the company is collaborating with the semiconductor production operations of Tata Electronics in Assam and Gujarat.

Micron is expanding its semiconductor supply chain into India, establishing locations in Gujarat for major suppliers like Simmtech. It is setting up an assembly, testing, monitoring, and packaging (ATMP) plant in India under the government’s $10 billion financial incentive package. This plant is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities, significantly enhancing India’s semiconductor industry.
