An Indian origin man was shot dead in broad daylight in Burnaby, Canada, in what police believe was a gang related attack. The incident has raised safety concerns in the area. Authorities are treating the case as a targeted killing.
The victim was identified as Dilraj Singh Gill, a 28 year old resident of Vancouver. He was shot on January 22 at around 5:30 pm near 3700 Canada Way. Police said he was rushed to a nearby hospital but died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Burnaby Police stated that the attack appeared deliberate. Shortly after the shooting, a burning vehicle was found on nearby Buxton Street. Investigators believe the suspects used the vehicle to flee the scene and destroy evidence.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed that Dilraj Singh Gill was known to police. He reportedly had links to a now defunct gang connected to British Columbia’s long running gang conflict. This conflict has claimed several Indian origin lives over the years.
Officers warned that the shooting occurred in a busy residential area, placing innocent people at risk. No arrests have been made so far. Police have urged the public to share dashcam footage or any information related to the suspects’ movements.
