Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa, directed by Rajat Kapoor, is a layered murder mystery that mixes dark humour with social commentary. The film is set during a private anniversary gathering at a holiday home, where hidden tensions slowly surface.
The story follows a group of 15 people whose celebration takes a shocking turn when Sohrab Handa, played by Vinay Pathak, is found dead. As many guests have reasons to dislike him, suspicion spreads across the entire group.
Rajat Kapoor presents the narrative using overlapping timelines that move between the investigation and past interactions. These moments reveal personal conflicts, subtle insults, and strained relationships. The storytelling keeps the audience engaged with its shifting perspectives.
The ensemble cast, including Ranvir Shorey and Saurabh Shukla, delivers natural and grounded performances. Their theatre-like acting style adds to the film’s realistic and slightly chaotic tone. The confined setting is used well to maintain continuity.
Despite its strong character work and layered themes, the film falls short in its climax. The final reveal feels familiar and does not fully match the tension created earlier. This weakens the overall impact of the story.
Rajat Kapoor has delivered engaging films in the past, but this one does not fully meet expectations. Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa works better as a study of human behaviour than as a gripping mystery.
The film may not satisfy those looking for a strong thriller. However, it offers enough depth to spark thought and discussion. In the end, it stands out more as a character-driven drama than a conventional whodunnit.
