Streaming Shock: Hanuman Chalisa Beats Biggest Chartbusters

Hanuman Chalisa tops streaming charts

The music industry continues to grow with strong revenue from streaming platforms and label rights. Over the years, film music has gained its own identity and loyal audience. Song collections from films now enjoy massive popularity across platforms.

Competition for the top spot on Spotify, YouTube and Jio Saavn remains intense. Last year, Saiyaara emerged as one of the biggest musical releases on the big screen. Its songs became widely popular, with listeners playing the album repeatedly.

However, Saiyaara faced an unexpected challenge in streaming numbers. Hanuman Chalisa surpassed it to become one of the most played tracks. In 2025, Hanuman Chalisa recorded 1.5 times more streams than Saiyaara songs, with a notable spike of 35 percent on Tuesday.

This trend highlights a strong preference among Indian listeners for devotional music. Religious songs continue to attract large audiences across platforms. The data suggests that such content often performs better than mainstream romantic tracks.

Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal remained among the top singers in India. A major part of their success comes from film music contributions. Their songs continue to dominate streaming charts and audience preferences.

Around 75 percent of music consumed by Indian listeners was film based. This reflects the strong influence of cinema on musical tastes. Films continue to play a key role in shaping listening habits across the country.
