Venkatesh and Rana Daggubati’s Rana Naidu, a gritty Netflix series, grabbed headlines for its bold storytelling—but also stirred controversy, especially around its use of profanity and adult content.
Venkatesh, long celebrated as a clean, family-friendly star with a legacy of emotional dramas and feel-good entertainers, stunned audiences by playing a brash, foul-mouthed gangster.
Fans who grew up watching him in family dramas were shocked—and many accused him of “spoiling” his carefully built image.
Yet, a significant chunk of Gen Z viewers loved it.
For them, Rana Naidu Season 1 was a breath of fresh (and foul) air. Seeing Venkatesh in an unapologetically abusive, unfiltered avatar was part of the thrill. That shock factor helped the first season become a breakout success on streaming.
But now, with Season 2 dropping on June 13, the trailer shows a clear shift in tone.
Gone are the expletives (at least in the trailer). The focus is now on raw action, intense emotions, and a deeper dive into Rana’s internal struggles. There’s no trace of the outrageous, profanity-laced energy that made Season 1 go viral.
And that’s where the debate begins.
While family audiences are relieved, a section of fans—especially younger viewers—are disappointed. For them, watching Venkatesh hurl abuses was bizarrely entertaining and gave the show its edge.
The new, “cleaner” version feels like the makers are playing it safe—possibly trying to reclaim the traditional family audience Venkatesh once ruled.
Directed by Abhay Chopra, and featuring Arjun Rampal, Kriti Kharbanda, and Sushant Singh, the second season promises more story and emotion—but perhaps less spice.
So, is this a much-needed redemption arc for Venkatesh, or a diluted sequel playing it too safe?
We’ll find out soon enough. Rana Naidu Season 2 starts streaming June 13—and the language may be toned down, but the reactions surely won’t be.
