Salman Khan’s much-hyped Eid release Sikandar has turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments in recent Bollywood history.
Despite releasing on a festive weekend and carrying a massive 200 crore budget, the action drama failed to make any impact at the box office. Directed by AR Murugadoss, Sikandar couldn’t even cross 100 crores net in India—falling short of Salman’s earlier disaster Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.

Right from the start, the film struggled to generate buzz. Poor reviews and negative word-of-mouth sealed its fate within the first few days.
Critics slammed the film for its outdated storyline, clichéd action sequences, and weak screenplay. Even Salman’s fading star power couldn’t save this sinking ship.

After the opening weekend, footfalls dropped sharply. Several shows were canceled due to low occupancy.
Audience attention quickly shifted to more promising releases like Jaat and Kesari 2. Online piracy also dealt a further blow to the film’s already poor prospects.

Now, Sikandar is heading to Netflix, where it begins streaming from May 25 (tonight).
With an eight-week theatrical-to-OTT gap, the digital release offers the film a second chance. But the big question is: can a film that failed so badly in theaters find redemption on OTT?
Or is the backlash going to be even worse? OTT audiences are often more ruthless than theatergoers. More likely, Sikandar is set to become an online troll fest once it drops on Netflix.
Salman’s sluggish acting and poor dialogue delivery are already prime material for viral threads on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter).
Netflix’s algorithm and wide reach may still put the film in front of casual weekend viewers. But many will probably watch it just to see how bad it really is.
