Rajinikanth’s Coolie is building massive hype online, but questions are being raised about its Pan-India potential, especially in the Hindi market. The presence of Aamir Khan was seen as a masterstroke, a casting choice that could unite South and North audiences like never before.
Aamir Khan brings authenticity and unmatched credibility in the Hindi-speaking belt, while Rajinikanth has long enjoyed cult popularity beyond the South. Together, they had the perfect setup for a blockbuster that could rival the biggest Bollywood spectacles.
However, the current marketing and distribution strategy seems lackluster. Without an aggressive Hindi rollout, dubbed versions with strong visibility, and promotions tailored to North Indian audiences, the film risks underperforming in a region that has historically embraced larger-than-life masala entertainers.
Rajinikanth’s appeal has always transcended language, but his Pan-India stardom was never maximized during the ’90s. Coolie could have been the turning point — a film uniting two icons while giving Rajini the nationwide spotlight he has long deserved.
Unfortunately, Pen Movies’ passive approach might squander this rare opportunity. The film deserves a Hindi launch on the scale of a Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan release. Anything less would be a misstep, wasting the chance to make Coolie a true Pan-India blockbuster.
