Based on Frank Herbert’s novel Dune, Dune: Part Two continues Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides as he and his Fremen comrades seek retribution. With a $190 million budget, the movie has already outperformed Dune: Part One at the box office, taking in $46 million during its second weekend of release.
Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, and more actors are in the cast. With a $157 million domestic total in less than two weeks, Dune 2 has already surpassed the $108 million domestic take of its predecessor, demonstrating the movie’s potential for both critical and commercial success.
The release dates and reviews have a big impact on Dune: Part One and Part Two’s box office performance. While Part One was launched on October 22, 2021, during the global epidemic, Part Two was released in March 2024 and encountered less competition during its initial week. As a result, it was released simultaneously in theatres and on HBO Max, which limited its box revenue potential.
With a 93% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 95% audience score, Part Two has received favourable reviews. In contrast, Part One had a lower score of 90% from the audience and 83% from the Tomatometer. The sequel has performed better overall at the box office despite these differences.
