BookMyShow, the most popular platform for easy ticket booking, is now under fire for its growing convenience fees.
What started as a free service, later introduced a small fee of Rs. 10 per ticket. But over time, and especially after the pandemic, this fee has jumped to Rs. 40-50 per ticket.

To make matters worse, the government now also taxes GST on these convenience fees, increasing the cost further.
Many people are upset, comparing BookMyShow’s fees to the old practice of ticket “black sales,” where middlemen would resell tickets at higher prices. However, in this case, BookMyShow doesn’t even buy the tickets upfront—they charge the fee just for processing the sale.

This steep fee raises concerns about the lack of consumer protection laws, as many feel the convenience fee has become a burden.
In a digital age where transactions are supposed to be easier and cheaper, these charges seem unfair to many.
