Samantha’s Maa Inti Bangaram is turning into one of the biggest success stories of the year.
In a remarkable achievement, Maa Inti Bangaram crossed the full North American lifetime gross of Naga Chaitanya’s career biggest grosser Thandel in just two days.
While Thandel finished its entire run with around $700K in North America, Maa Inti Bangaram stands at approximately $833K in the US market, including premieres, within just two days of release.
What makes the achievement even more interesting is another comparison that has emerged among trade circles.
Maa Inti Bangaram posted an overseas opening day of approximately $700K (Rs. 6.6 crore). Coincidentally, Pawan Kalyan’s much bigger and far more expensive Ustaad Bhagat Singh also opened in the same range overseas at around $700K (Rs. 6.5 crore).
A medium-budget female-oriented film crossing the overseas opening of a major Pawan Kalyan release is not something many would have predicted before release.
After collecting around Rs. 12 crores gross worldwide on Day 1, the film actually grew on Day 2 and added approximately Rs. 14 crore gross. That takes the two-day worldwide total to around Rs. 26 crore gross.
The second day ended up being bigger than the first day, which is a strong indicator that family audiences are embracing the film.
Interestingly, fans have now started connecting these collections to a Samantha’s viral playful comment during the film’s pre-release event.
At the event, Samantha jokingly said, “Ee cinema tho okkokkarini kodatham chudu” (“With this film, we will hit everyone hard”).
After Maa Inti Bangaram crossed Thandel’s North American lifetime total within two days and matched the overseas opening of Ustaad Bhagat Singh, some fans on social media are jokingly asking whether Samantha indirectly “targeted” ex-husband Naga Chaitanya and Pawan Kalyan with that statement.
Samantha’s comment was clearly made in a playful promotional context before release. But social media rarely misses an opportunity to create its own narratives when numbers start talking.
While the industry often focuses on star heroes and massive budgets, Maa Inti Bangaram is proving that even a well-packaged family entertainer made on a medium budget led by Samantha can compete with and, in some markets, even beat films starring biggest male stars in Telugu cinema.
That is no small achievement.
