Dhurandhar Destroyed Future of Telugu VFX Action Films?

Ram Gopal Varma on Dhurandhar impact

Ram Gopal Varma has continued to praise the impact of Dhurandhar, stating that Indian cinema has entered a new phase after the film’s success. According to him, audience expectations are undergoing a major shift.

RGV said several films are lined up for release, but their outcomes are now unpredictable. He expressed specific doubts about Telugu action films that rely heavily on special effects without strong storytelling support.

He explained how Dhurandhar breaks traditional action film norms. The film opens without a heroic entry sequence, and the lead character is attacked early on. RGV noted this approach is the complete opposite of what action cinema followed for decades.

Ram Gopal Varma also spoke about the influence of films like RRR and HanuMan. He said they set benchmarks for a long time, but Dhurandhar has now raised a new standard for upcoming releases.

RGV added that audience tastes have evolved significantly. He even suggested that sequences similar to the climax of Pushpa 2 may no longer work with viewers in the current climate.

Many online users agreed with RGV’s observations. Several commented that filmmakers and producers must change their approach, pointing to the failure of The RajaSaab as an example of how VFX alone cannot save a weak script.

A section of viewers believes the success of Dhurandhar has made filmmakers cautious. Some feel it could even result in the cancellation of certain pan-India projects that depend heavily on spectacle.

However, others argue that cinema needs variety. They believe films with heavy VFX should continue alongside content-driven stories to avoid creative stagnation.

Meanwhile, Dhurandhar 2 is set to arrive in just a month. Expectations are rising steadily, and it remains to be seen whether the sequel will once again redefine the big-screen experience.
