Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has provided much-needed clarity on the scheduling of the state’s local body elections, indicating that the polls are set to take place either in late September or during October 2026.
The state government and the State Election Commission (SEC) are currently gearing up for the political battle, which will officially kick off once crucial preliminary administrative procedures are wrapped up.
The primary prerequisite for scheduling these elections is the completion of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. This SIR exercise involves a meticulous, door-to-door verification and update of voter lists to ensure maximum accuracy and eliminate irregularities. Chief Minister Naidu has emphasized that this revision is a high-priority task, directing ruling alliance partners to coordinate closely to ensure a transparent update.
With the SEC already active in finalizing administrative arrangements, voter lists, and reservation quotas, the official election notification is highly anticipated for September 2026.
This timeline is intended to ensure that new local governing bodies will be fully operational by the start of the upcoming new year. These efforts reflect the government’s commitment to maintaining a structured and transparent democratic process across the state.
