New York-based filmmaker Mukesh Modi faced a setback when India’s film-certification body declined to issue a censor clearance certificate for his film, “Political War.” Originally titled ‘2024 Election War,’ the film underwent a name change as per objections from the Censor Board.
Despite revisions suggested by the revising committee, the movie was rejected. The board cited the resemblance of actors’ faces to Indian politicians as the reason for denial.
Expressing dissatisfaction, Mukesh Modi appealed to Indian PM Narendra Modi, urging him to appoint competent individuals to the Censor Board and enhance the system for filmmakers’ benefit.
In a social media post, Mukesh shared a video from the CBFC office, highlighting objections to certifications for films like ‘Animal’ and ‘Adipurush.’ He criticized ‘Animal’ as excessively violent and misogynistic and Adipurush as a film that hurt Hindu sentiments.
Despite this setback, he announced the movie’s release overseas and on OTT platforms on February 16. The film aims to inspire voting, expose corrupt politicians and their divisive politics, and convey a message of unity in diversity for India.
