With traffic jams in Hyderabad turning into daily nightmares, the Cyberabad Police have decided to replace 250 cars with 50 buses in the Mindspace area as part of a new “One Bus Per Company” policy.
This move aims to ease congestion in IT hubs such as Gachibowli, Hitec City, and the Financial District. The initiative also promotes carpooling among employees to reduce private vehicle use. Police estimate that these measures could cut city traffic by up to 20%.
According to a recent Cyberabad Police survey, many employees working in the same offices were travelling from the same areas but using individual vehicles, causing severe traffic pile-ups. Carpooling, they suggest, would save fuel and travel time while helping decongest major routes.
In Mindspace alone, each IT company brings in nearly 250 cars daily. To tackle this, police will soon launch a pilot project deploying 50 buses in collaboration with participating IT firms. Several tech parks have already agreed to support the initiative.
Hyderabad currently has around 30 IT parks with 20-30 companies each. If all of them adopt this system, officials believe citywide traffic could reduce by 20%. The survey also identified 60 major congestion points, each seeing nearly 10,000 vehicles during peak hours.
