The Telangana High Court on Thursday heard a PIL concerning the Metro project in Hyderabad’s Old City. The All People’s Welfare Forum (APWF) filed the petition, alleging that Metro construction was damaging historical structures in the area. The petition also stated that the government had not obtained permission from the Archaeology Department.
The petitioner’s counsel argued that clear guidelines prohibit construction near protected monuments. On behalf of the government, Additional Advocate General Imran Khan said the Metro expansion was vital for the Old City’s development.
The judge questioned the AAG about the second phase of the Metro and related construction activities. Imran Khan explained that a new line was being built between MGBS and Chandrayangutta as part of Phase 2. He added that the PIL aimed to halt developmental works in the area.
After hearing both sides, the Court directed the government to submit full details of the second phase, along with maps showing areas around historic sites. The hearing was adjourned to November 18 for further review.
