The recent ‘Mood of the Nation’ survey conducted by India Today in Andhra Pradesh has revealed significant insights into the political landscape. According to the survey conducted in January 2024, the results indicate a changing mood among the people, with increasing support for the TDP and a potential decline for the ruling YSRCP.
As per the survey, the TDP is projected to secure 45% of the votes, with a guaranteed 17 MP seats, while the YSRCP is expected to be limited to 41.1% of the votes, with 8 MP seats. The survey also predicts that the BJP will receive 2% of the votes, and Congress will secure 3%.
It’s important to note that the survey was conducted before two significant political developments in February. Firstly, YS Sharmila, the sister of Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, assumed the role of President for the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC). Secondly, the TDP is set to join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The entry of YS Sharmila into AP Congress and her strong political attacks against her brother YS Jaganmohan Reddy could potentially impact the voter sentiment in favor of Congress. The survey’s prediction for Congress stands at 3%, but the dynamics may change with Sharmila’s leadership.
The TDP’s decision to join the NDA could lead to a shift in its traditional support base, particularly among minority voters. However, this move may also be balanced by a potential decrease in support for the YSRCP due to factors like YS Sharmila’s aggressive political stance and the alliance with the BJP.
Overall, the survey conducted in January may not fully capture the evolving political landscape in Andhra Pradesh, and subsequent developments in February could influence the actual voting patterns in the upcoming elections.
