Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has stepped in after a clash between Northeast and local students at SK College of Nursing in Kakinada.
The incident reportedly began on August 21 after a mobile phone belonging to a Northeast student went missing. An argument between Northeast students, including students from Manipur, and local Telugu-speaking students later turned into a physical clash. Some students were reportedly injured.
The issue gained wider attention after former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh contacted the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office and sought Naidu’s intervention over the safety of the students.
Naidu directed senior officials to resolve the issue and ensure the students’ safety. Kakinada District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad and SP G. Bindu Madhav visited the hostel and spoke to students.
Following the intervention, 31 students from Manipur and Nagaland were shifted to separate accommodation with their consent. Security was also increased at the new location.
The Northeast students later expressed satisfaction with the arrangements and said they felt safe.
The situation is now under control, with officials looking into what led to the original dispute and the clash that followed.
For the government, the immediate priority is clear: keep the students safe, restore normalcy at the college and make sure the incident does not turn into a larger regional issue.
