The situation in the YSRCP’s Kandukur constituency in Prakasam district has become confusing and chaotic. Party cadres say there is no clear leadership on the ground. This has created unrest within the organisation.
The in charge, Burra Madhusudan Yadav, is making only fleeting appearances in the constituency. Even key programmes are being handled by second tier leaders. This has led to growing impatience among party workers.
During an important programme to collect one crore signatures against the PPP model for medical colleges, Burra’s involvement was minimal. The responsibility fell entirely on second tier leaders. This further increased frustration.
Local leaders are now openly questioning how long this situation will continue. They have warned the party high command about the consequences. Kandukur was once considered a stronghold for the party.
The Kandukur constituency is known for intense group politics. For nearly six decades, the Manugunta and Divi families dominated the political scene. In the last elections, neither family contested for the first time.
In a major upset, TDP candidate Inturi Nageswara Rao defeated YSRCP candidate Burra Madhusudan Yadav. This loss marked a turning point. It altered the political balance in the constituency.
Ahead of the elections, the YSRCP high command sidelined sitting MLA Manugunta Mahidhar Reddy. Burra Madhusudan Yadav was brought in from Kanigiri. This decision caused internal dissatisfaction.
Mahidhar Reddy and his key followers went silent even before polling day. Party insiders believe this played a role in the defeat. The damage was already visible by then.
After the loss, party workers say the situation worsened further. Burra Madhusudan Yadav is reportedly considering a return to Kanigiri. As a result, he is accused of taking Kandukur lightly.
Cadres claim he visits the constituency only during festivals or special occasions. Day to day party affairs are largely ignored. This has weakened organisational strength.
Second tier leaders complain that even office expenses are not supported. Managing party activities has become overwhelming for them. Their frustration is now openly visible.
Meanwhile, Manugunta Mahidhar Reddy continues to visit his personal office in Kandukur. He remains accessible to his followers. However, he is staying away from YSRCP activities.
There is growing discussion in the constituency about whether Mahidhar Reddy is still with YSRCP. He has reportedly told close associates that he will contest in 2029. He has not clarified which party he will represent.
Earlier, locals strongly opposed merging Kandukur into Nellore district. Recently, the coalition government merged it back into Prakasam district. This decision changed the political narrative.
With this move, the Ramayapatnam port also came under Prakasam district. The port is crucial for regional development. This has strengthened the ruling alliance’s position.
The TDP is carefully taking credit for both the district change and port development. Telugu Desam leaders believe this strategy will help consolidate their hold. They expect Kandukur to become their stronghold.
This highlights the contrasting positions of YSRCP and TDP in Kandukur. One party is struggling with internal confusion. The other is steadily strengthening its base.
