Telangana police, known for strictly enforcing traffic rules on ordinary citizens, are now facing heavy backlash for having massive unpaid fines on their own vehicles.
Reports have revealed that Hyderabad police vehicles have over 68 lakh rupees in pending fines.
This shocking issue came to light through a Right to Information (RTI) request, sparking outrage among the public, who are now questioning why traffic rules apply only to regular citizens and not the police themselves.
While ordinary drivers are slapped with fines for offenses like wrong route driving, over-speeding, lack of helmets, and violations like triple riding, it turns out that police vehicles are also guilty of similar infractions.
There are currently 17,391 pending fines on police vehicles in Hyderabad, amounting to a staggering 68,67,885 rupees.
The revelation was made by Lokender Singh, aka Hyd Traffic Man on X, who filed the RTI. While he expressed respect for the traffic police, he blasted the hypocrisy of their own vehicle violations.
The news has sparked intense debate on social media, with people questioning how the police can continue to enforce rules they blatantly ignore.
What’s even more outrageous is that these police vehicles are registered under the name of the state’s Director-General of Police (DGP), creating confusion about who will ultimately pay the fines.
It looks like government funds, specifically allocated by the Home Department, will cover these fines, meaning the public will end up paying for the police’s blunders.
This scandal has ignited calls for the police to practice what they preach and for fines to be paid by the officers responsible, not taxpayers.
