In a girl’s bag, you usually find stuff like a comb, lipstick, and other everyday items. But things have changed, and now emergency contraceptive pills and condoms also find a place there. This shift is not just in the United States but also happening in India. In a recent survey, 3% of Indian women admitted that they always carry condoms in their purse for safe sex.
Back in 2022, when condoms and pills were discovered in the bags of students in a Bangalore school, it surprised everyone in the country. Girls were part of this too.
Sex health experts emphasize that condoms and emergency pills are vital tools for women’s sexual health. Condoms are easy to get, don’t need a prescription, and offer complete protection against diseases. Emergency pills prevent pregnancies but not diseases, so it’s important for women to have condoms too.
As casual relationships become more common in India, the responsibility to avoid pregnancies falls more on women, as only 9.5% of men use condoms. Intimacy coaches compares carrying condoms to lipstick, saying it should be as casual.
There’s a rise in sexual experimentation among young people in India, linked to increased mobile phone use for watching porn. Gynecologists stresses the need for sex education to avoid unsafe practices and teenage pregnancies.
While a survey shows acceptance abroad for women buying condoms, there’s still stigma in India. Associating these items with a woman’s character is criticized, highlighting the importance of women prioritizing their sexual health without judgment.
