Hawa Ka Jhonka? Banaras Ropeway Video Goes Viral

Every large infrastructure project carries two narratives. One is the grand promise sold through presentations. The other is the real experience of people who use it daily. For commuters, comfort and perceived safety matter as much as technology and cost.

Ropeways are often promoted as symbols of smart urban mobility. Yet for passengers, even minor visual discomfort can raise serious doubts. In that context, a viral video of the new Banaras ropeway has sparked widespread concern online.

The clip, shot from the ground, shows a gondola swaying visibly in the air. X user Nitin (@nkk_123) claimed that even a light “hawa ka jhonka” was causing the cabin to swing sharply, triggering anxiety about passenger safety.

The post also highlighted the reported project cost of around Rs 815 crore and a length of nearly 3.8 km. It warned that passengers would be “dying every minute out of fear” if such movement continues during regular operations.

The mix of a massive price tag, visible sway, and imagined panic inside the cabin explains why the video spread rapidly. Visual fear often travels faster than technical explanations, especially when public safety feels involved.

At the same time, ropeways are designed to withstand controlled movement. Officials have indicated that some clips may be from testing phases, where cabins are intentionally stressed to assess performance and safety limits.

A responsible response lies between panic and dismissal. Authorities need to clearly explain wind limits, safety protocols, and inspection standards. Without transparent communication, the Banaras ropeway risks becoming a viral scare rather than a trusted urban transport system.
