Bengaluru cop checked his WhatsApp and hidden photos

Vishnu, a Kerala native working in Bengaluru, has alleged misconduct by a police officer who stopped him on the night of May 6 near Hebbal Kempapura. In a detailed account shared online, Vishnu described how he was catching up with a college batchmate when a police officer on a motorcycle approached and began questioning them aggressively.

According to Vishnu, the officer asked where they were from and what they were doing. Despite answering politely, the officer reportedly took his friend’s phone without explanation and began checking WhatsApp messages and photo galleries. Vishnu said the officer even searched his name in his friend’s phone.

When the officer demanded Vishnu’s phone, he initially hesitated, citing privacy concerns. However, the officer allegedly took the phone anyway, scrolling through WhatsApp, the Hidden Album, and the Recently Deleted folder. When Vishnu protested, the officer labeled him a “suspect” and insisted on full cooperation.

Vishnu said the interaction lasted over 30 minutes and left him feeling humiliated. “There was no explanation, no respect, just abuse of power,” he wrote in a post that has since gone viral.

He expressed frustration over what he described as an unjustified and invasive search, saying he had only heard of such incidents until he experienced one himself.

Following the incident, Vishnu filed formal complaints and contacted the media to draw attention to the issue. “All I want is to feel safe in this city. I’m not against the system. I’m against the misuse of power,” he stated.
