If you were having doubts about climate change being real or not then you should see the contrasting and confusing weather patterns between North and South India this year. The winters are famous for their bone chilling low temperature in the Himalayan range and all of Northern plains. However, the usually snow clad mountains of Himalayas are missing the snow this year and strangely some parts of South India are freezing.
The Nilgiri mountain range of the southern peninsula do experience low temperature during the winter months however, this time the temperature at the southern mountains are shocking. The Sandynalla reservoir area in Nilgiri hills recorded the lowest temperature of 0°C.
Even the hill station of Ooty recorded a very low temperature of 2.3°C. The slopes of the hills froze at such low temperatures. Frost could be seen everywhere in the Nilgiri hills at a time when the mountain slopes of Kashmir are missing snow.
The pictures of ski resorts of Gulmarg recently went viral which showed the famous hill station devoid of any snow. This has had a huge impact on the tourism in the region which relies heavily on snowfall. There’s a more serious ecological concern related to these events.
