Technology continues to blur the boundary between machines and human performers in unexpected ways. Even live concerts, once entirely driven by human talent, are now experimenting with robotics without diluting the core artistic experience.
At a recent concert by Wang Leehom in Chengdu, robots developed by Unitree made a notable stage appearance. Designed for agility, the robots joined human dancers in a carefully synchronised performance.
The machines executed complex moves and flips with precision, drawing audible reactions from the audience. Their seamless coordination with the dancers highlighted how far live performance robotics has evolved in recent years.
This moment also reflected China’s growing focus on advanced robotics. Unitree’s models demonstrated their ability to handle dynamic tasks like dancing, even under the pressure of a live concert environment.
Importantly, the performance remained glitch free and well integrated. Rather than distracting from the show, the robots enhanced it, adding a visual layer that complemented the music and choreography.
Despite the technical spectacle, Wang Leehom remained firmly at the centre of attention. The emotional connection and musical performance stayed human, avoiding any sense of over dependence on technology.
As robotics continues to advance, such collaborations may become more common. The Chengdu concert suggests a future where machines amplify creativity on stage instead of replacing the human touch.
