Vishal’s long-delayed film Madha Gaja Raja, which was originally supposed to release 12 years ago, turned out to be a surprising blockbuster in Tamil Nadu this Pongal.
The film, which had been stuck in limbo for over a decade, finally saw the light of day and exceeded expectations at the Tamil box office.

With mass appeal, glamor, crass humor and a festive release advantage, the movie stormed past the ₹50 crore gross mark, becoming Vishal’s second highest-grossing film in Tamil Nadu.
Encouraged by its Tamil success, the film was also dubbed and released in Telugu last weekend. However, unlike its Tamil reception, the movie flopped badly in Telugu states.

According to the trade, Madha Gaja Raja managed just around ₹1 crore gross in three days with a share of around just ₹50 lakh.
For the film to be considered a decent success in Telugu, it needed to collect at least ₹2.2 crore in share. However, with its current trend, it is unlikely to even cross ₹1 crore in share by the end of its run, marking another disappointment for Vishal in the Telugu market.

Vishal once had a solid market in Telugu states, with his films consistently pulling in ₹5-10 crore at their peak.
Movies like Pandem Kodi, Pogaru, and Poojai performed well, particularly in B and C centers, making him a bankable star in the Telugu market. However, over the years, a series of poor films have completely destroyed his standing.
His recent films have struggled to make an impact, with even a decent movie like Mark Antony failing to generate minimum box office numbers in Telugu.
