The connection between Huawei and Qualcomm is complicated since Huawei is growing internationally while Qualcomm influences mobile technology. With a focus on 5G, Huawei started producing its own processors and modems to rival Qualcomm’s products.

Huawei was forced to depend on Qualcomm’s 4G chips for several years following the U.S. ban. Huawei is making a deliberate drive for independence by moving away from Qualcomm processors and creating its own Kirin chipsets for smartphones.

The Pura 70 series, which uses the Kirin 9010 chipset and more Chinese-made components than foreign ones, is an example of Huawei’s quest for self-reliance.

Leading Chinese tech major Huawei has switched from utilising Qualcomm CPUs in its current smartphone models to employing its own chipset, the Kirin 9010. This action is in line with the business’s plan to increase independence following US sanctions.

In 2023, Huawei revealed revenue of about $100 billion, mostly due to the robust development of the Chinese smartphone market. With a 70% increase in Q1 2024, the company’s net profit shot up 564% year over year and it became the market leader in Chinese mobile shipments.
