This Tech Change Agriculture Forever

The alternative risk transfer

In order to determine the area under cultivation and evaluate agricultural damage, the Telangana government is thinking of implementing technology. This is the state’s first attempt of its kind; Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal have already implemented comparable programmes.

The alternative risk transfer (ART) model, which divides income-loss between insurance companies and the federal and state governments, is another strategy the state is thinking about putting into place for crop insurance programmes. Two types of 80-110 and 60-130 percentage payments are available with the ART model.

Because technology reduces costs and eliminates the need for human resources for agricultural damage verification, insurance companies are interested in adopting it. States like West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh have previously adopted the technique.

In order to identify land not in cultivation for the Rythu Bharosa crop insurance policy, the Congress government is investigating various approaches. A cap that would prohibit uncultivated land from being eligible for sops is being proposed.

This will facilitate the entry of information on land that is and is not under cultivation by officials. Technology has the potential to be very important in this process. After the crop insurance scheme’s tender procedure is concluded, a clear picture will become apparent.
