Delta Air Lines recently launched its One Stop Security pilot program for passengers arriving from London Heathrow and connecting through Atlanta. Eligible travelers enrolled in Global Entry or using the Mobile Passport app can bypass the usual secondary TSA screening and baggage recheck, simplifying international layovers significantly.
While the initiative is promising, it applies only to passengers booked on a single itinerary from Heathrow to Atlanta and meeting program criteria. Families, senior travelers, and those unfamiliar with Global Entry or the app receive no benefit, highlighting how many travelers remain excluded from this convenience.
This targeted effort underscores a broader concern: airlines frequently promote tech-based solutions while ignoring fundamental experiences faced by most passengers. The average traveler still endures long lines, luggage claims and rechecks, document checks, and redundant security—issues that go unaddressed by these selective improvements.
Despite this, passengers on the program benefit from smoother arrivals. Global Entry and Mobile Passport users can complete customs procedures and immediately proceed to their gate, while their checked baggage is handled between flights. This reduces connection time by up to 40%, according to Delta.
However, the core issue remains systemic. Travelers outside the pilot continue facing outdated protocols that make international connections exhausting. Real progress would require solutions that apply broadly—not just to privileged travelers—to improve consistency and comfort for everyone.
